Slot.it Porsche GT1 EVO 98

FIA GT Oschersleben 1998

The 1998 Oschersleben 500 was the opening round the 1998 FIA GT Championship season. It took place at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, Germany, on April 12, 1998. The race was won by the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR of the AMG team driven by Ricardo Zonta of Brazil and Klaus Ludwig of Germany.
The #5 car of the Zakspeed team was driven by the two German drivers Alexander Grau and Andreas Scheld and came 4th overall.
For the 1998 season, Porsche developed an all-new car, the 911 GT1-98. Designed to match the also new Toyota GT-One and Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, the 911 GT1-98 featured bodywork which bore more of a resemblance to traditional sports-prototypes than the previous 2 models while a new sequential gearbox was installed. As per the regulations a street-legal version of the 911 GT1-98 was spawned, but it is believed that only one variant was produced which was still sufficient to satisfy the regulations.

During the 1998 FIA International GT season the 911 GT1-98 struggled to match the pace of the Mercedes, which also were improved, with the main reason being down to the air-restrictor rules being which were regarded as unfavourable to the turbo engine (the Merecedes being naturally aspirated). The Michelin tyres of the factory team and especially the Pirelli of the Zakspeed team were also considered inferior to the Bridgestone of Mercedes. (source: Wikipedia)
The Slot.it model is good looking, very light and made to win slot car races.
I was sent this demo model already race tuned as perhaps one of the Slot.it team or another journalist had raced it. The magnet was removed and the rear tyres had been trued. All the better right out of the box, but easy to do yourself too.

This is a very smooth car that runs very well and quietly with an angle-winder setup and plastic crown gear.

The Slot.it Flat-6 20,500 RPM motor is open on the bottom side, keeping the height down and allowing it to fit into the tight body space. The whole car weighs in at 76.7g and the body is a light 17.1g. It flexes easily on the two central pilar mounts - no need to loosen up the screws.
Measurements of model as I received it - it may have been adjusted as it was run before it came to me.

Front track: 53.5mm         Rear track: 51.5mm         Guide hole centre to rear axle centre: 103mm

Wheelbase: 80.5mm         Axle diameters: 2.4mm

Front wheel diameter: 19.5mm                        Rear wheel diameter: 20.4mm

Pinion gear: 11                 Crown gear: 28                         Ratio: 2,545:1

A very low profile guide blade help the car get really low down, with the chassis virtually flat on the track. Grub screws on the front axel mount allow the play to be adjusted according to your taste. Plastic front rims, alloy rear rims with plastic inserts look great. The motor pod can be loosened, but I found the whole chassis was loose enough without having to loosen anything else.
I am sure this model will be appreciated by Slot.it fans and fans of the Porsche GT1. A serious contender for the Slot.it Challenge Series
